Erica Timothy (b. 1957) is a contemporary ceramic artist, based in Bath, UK. Her work is sculptural, organic and elegant.
She is inspired by nature and the many beautiful forms of flora and fauna. Erica is a qualified practising landscape architect, and her knowledge of the natural world is a great boon to her artistic practice. This is evident in the recent sculptures inspired by the seed pods of British and West African plants alike, while early work often references the animal world, with the extravagantly curved horns of her vessels reminiscent of those of antelopes.
Erica specialises in hand-coiling with clay; a traditional process that requires patience and skill, but allows for creating shapes and forms that would otherwise be impossible to achieve with a throwing wheel. This results in an enchanting body of work.
